Ashley Heffernen has been a gift to my three kids who have all taken lessons with her online. I have three very different learners who are all neurodivergent thinkers. She has been a true light in my children's lives. Ashley is excellent at meeting a child where they are and is wonderfully patient when needed. She knows when it is the right time to push children out of their comfort zone and is great with praise and encouragement. She has fostered my children's love of music by allowing them to be active participants in the exploration of the music she is teaching them. I highly recommend Ashley!!!!"read less

Fun Fact: There is no such thing as being “bad at math”, understanding is all about how math is taught to you and the practice you are willing to put in.
Hello! My name is Victoria Dowdy, and I have been working as a math tutor for over five years now. I have a B.S. in Mathematics with a Concentration in Teaching and a minor in STEM education. I am also certified to teach 7-12th grade math. Though my favorite subject is calculus, I have also spent time as a pre-k teacher and have tutored kids from as young as first grade. Hi out there! Thanks for stopping by Dr. B’s profile. ! I have been on a great road of academic success and still continue my academic journey always seeking new knowledge. I am currently seeking my Masters in the Art of Teaching Special Education with initial licensure along with credentials for information science. I found my way to the world of education and tutoring by chance when I was asked by peers for help during college at the learning center. I realized I absolutely enjoyed helping others to connect with information in real ways they could relate to. I have been tutoring for over 9 years and have worked with all types of learners including students who are: neurodiverse, ESL, students with diagnosed conditions, first-generation, at-risk, and many students who need a different type of tutoring experience. I have been a substitute teacher for many years, paraprofessional, business owner, adjunct professor, and even tried out marketing and advertising; all have been fantastic learning experiences and beyond valuable to understanding people and different industries. My tutoring style is visual and hands-on but I can certainly adapt to whatever you prefer to understand material. My highest academic achievement has been receiving my doctorate in education for reading education (Ed.D). I am a passionate, enthusiastic, patient, and very understanding tutor. Outside of tutoring, you will find me at the barn riding my horses and preparing for competitions, spending time with my dogs, writing music, reading, hiking, coloring and painting, and watching tv shows about crime.

Fun Fact: One fun fact about Los Angeles is that it is the second-largest city in the United States and the largest city in California. It is a beautiful place with amazing people.
My name is Sheida Shayegani and I am an undergraduate student at Santa Monica College. I have received a perfect score in AP Calc AB/BC and A+ in all of my math courses throughout high school. I know how math can be difficult for students but luckily, I know many ways to make math an interesting subject to learn! I will help every one of my students to get that golden A in their classes. During my free time, I love to work out and hike. Hiking over the Los Angeles mountains is definitely one of the most amazing experiences I had. I am planning to transfer to UCLA or UCB for my architectural degree. On the final note, I am proud to be part of HGT and can’t wait to work with amazing students.

Fun Fact: I believe that lots of math terminology and vocab is unnecessarily complicated, and prevents students from understanding the actual concepts!
Josh graduated from Oberlin College and Conservatory with degrees in math and piano performance, and has spent the last five years teaching math at the Ecole d’Humanité, an international boarding school in Switzerland. When tutoring, he likes to focus on creating a safe, comfortable and productive learning atmosphere with his students, so that the anxiety and frustration often associated with math can be removed from the equation. He particularly enjoys
the way that mathematical ideas build on each other, and believes that breaking complicated concepts down into simple, step-by-step processes can make math fun and accessible to anyone! He is a passionate hiker who loves finding new, beautiful places in nature, and also likes to play soccer, chess, and piano whenever he gets the chance to.
I have received awards for STEM communication, I do research, I am the one students go to when they don’t understand something, I teach in a way that students can’t forget — and not just to pass the exam. But the most satisfying part of my tutoring experience is quite simple: I love it when my students get excited about learning.
My AP calculus students score in the 98th percentile or higher, my SAT students in the 97th or higher, and the lowest score a student of mine has received on the IB Higher Level math exam is a 5. And no, my students are not typically top-notch students who eat textbooks for breakfast, but they represent many
walks of life. I’ve had F students get accepted to Yale in 3 years’ worth of my work, absolute math haters go on to pursue doctoral degrees in STEM, working-class students taking care of their families score a 7 on the IB higher Level exam, and so forth.
If you are one of my test prep students, I will focus on your speed and efficiency. You will be a 99th percentile machine and you will have extra time on the exams to take a nap, if you so wish. I will coach you like you are an athlete with daily exercises, fun games to engage your mind, practice exams, and I
will show you your progress every month or week leading up to the exam.

I am also certified to teach 7-12th grade math. Though my favorite subject is calculus, I have also spent time as a pre-k teacher and have tutored kids from as young as first grade. I am passionate about helping students catch up or challenge them in new areas. Working with students one-on-one is the most effective (and fun) way to reach their educational needs. I would love to go on that journey with you!
My name is Nicklas Klepser and I am originally from Omaha, Nebraska. I recently graduated from Kalamazoo College in Kalamazooo, Michigan with a major in economics and a minor in mathematics. While at Kalamazoo College I had the opportunity to study abroad in Bonn, Germany. I am currently getting a Master’s in Public Health at the University of Haifa.

Fun Fact: The average person eats almost 1500 pounds of food a year.
